Owatonna Forward is a grassroots, citizen-driven "community visioning" effort that seeks to create a brighter future for all Owatonna community members. Members of Owatonna Forward include business owners, civic leaders, residents and others who care about Owatonna's future.
In December, Owatonna Forward released 13 "destiny drivers" - goals that are based on months of surveys and conversations with residents. Three of these drivers directly relate to education, which Owatonna Forward described as a "cornerstone to a thriving community":
- Lead preschool through grade 12 educational opportunities and rank in the top 10 percent of MN school districts by 2027.
- Create a 21st century high school facility that prepares students to be college and/or career ready.
- By 2024, 100 percent of graduating Owatonna students will have an individual career plan.
We are honored and delighted that our community, through Owatonna Forward, has identified education-related destiny drivers that will benefit our students and our community. At the January 8 School Board work session, we will begin to discuss how we can, in partnership with our community, achieve these community-based dreams. Clearly, our community understands that Strong Schools = Strong Communities. Working together, we can make Owatonna the best it can be.
