Information Technology

The Technology Department is responsible for the procurement, installation, maintenance, support and security of all computer and telecommunications systems for the school district. All district students and employees have access to very sophisticated tools including: a fully networked digital telephone system, state of the art high speed Windows computer network with Internet and email access at every desktop and cable television and video distribution throughout each building.

All teachers have a tablet or laptop computer. The majority of elementary and Junior High School classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards consisting of a dedicated desktop computer, Internet connectivity, Cable TV and DVD access. About 1/3 of our High School classrooms have this Smart Board Technology.

Our 4 elementary schools and our intermediate (6th grade) school each have 3 16-station wireless laptops carts. Owatonna Junior High School is equipped with a 34 workstation lab, a 30 workstation lab, a 16 station wireless laptop cart, an 8 station wireless laptop cart, a 20 station wireless pc tablet cart, an industrial technology lab, and pods of computers located throughout the building. Owatonna High School has 7 34-workstation labs, 5 16-station wireless laptop cart, an 8-station wireless laptop cart, and the auditorium and small group forum are both outfitted with automated state of the art audio/video presentation systems.

All district buildings are connected via high speed fiber optics.
